Being an on-fire Christian in a secular culture can be pretty challenging! We sponsor annual NORTHEAST MARKETPLACE MINISTRY AWARDS each Christmas Season for three reasons: (1) to encourage and exhort on-fire working men and women to "keep on keeping on;" (2) to encourage other working Christians by pointing out real-world role models who are seeking to be Christlike in their everyday worklives and career paths; and (3) to be a testimony in the public square by publicizing award winners.
2009 Award Recipients included:
* Crown Financial Ministries of New England based in Windsor, CT (www.Crown.org) in the "Most Helpful Para-Church Ministry" category. Led by Regional Director Yvonne Mitto, Crown trains people and organizations to handle money with integrity and Biblical wisdom. In 2009, Crown also organized its first-ever New England conference at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester, MA.
* First Baptist Church of Tolland CT (www.TollandBaptist.org) in the "Most Helpful Church" category. This church hosted a 2009 Marketplace Ministry weekend, helped to re-start the Greater Hartford Chapter of the Fellowship of Companies for Christ, and consistently encouraged its members to integrate their faith and work.
* Don Fish, Owner of DW Fish Real Estate in Vernon, CT (www.DWFishRealEstate.com) in the "Most On-fire Business Owner" category. His firm recently celebrated 40 years in business. Fish is a lifetime resident of Bolton, CT and is active in the Manchester Church of the Nazarene.
Michael Purcaro, Vice President of the Public Health Foundation of Connecticut in Hartford (www.PublicHealthCT.org) in the "Most On-fire Manager Category." A tireless community servant, Purcaro is a long-time resident of Vernon, CT where he also serves as the town Director of Emergency Management.
Ernie Truax, New England Director of the Christian Business Men's Connection based in Leominster, MA (www.CBMC.com) in the "Building a Godly Legacy" category. Truax's son, Lee, was recently hired as President of CBMC's USA headquarters in Chattanooga, TN.
